Glass Breaking CeremonyAt the end of a Jewish Wedding Ceremony, a wine glass, which has been drunk from by the Bride and Groom, is covered with a white cloth and laid on the ground.
After seven benedictions, the Groom breaks it by stomping on it. This symbolises the destruction of the ancient Jewish Temple. It is a reminder of the seriousness of marriage and that it can not be reversed. The Bride and Groom and all the guests will shout - 'MAZAL TOV'. |
